Ukraine's Independence Day
Our country has sought independence for hundreds of years. For a while, she received full or partial independence and again lost her. The starting point of the history of Ukraine is conditionally considered the 9th century when the state was founded. In the future, the state broke up into a number of small principalities. In the XVII century, the Cossack-Hetman state was founded, but its history was short-lived. In the next century, this state did not exist.
The next attempt to establish an independent Ukrainian state dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. After the revolution of 1917, namely on November 20, 1917, the Central Rada published the Third Universal, according to which the independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic was declared. Universal, in fact, fulfilled the role of the Constitution, as it identified the rights and duties of citizens. After this, an open military conflict begins, in which the German troops were involved.
Germany as an ally helped the troops of the UPR to clear the country's territory of the Bolsheviks but did not fulfill its main promise. Not Ukrainian politicians, but German ones were brought to power.
Long-term military conflicts tore the territory of Ukraine apart, disunited and reunified the nation to a certain point. In 1919 the Constitution of the Ukrainian SSR (Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic) was adopted in Kiev, which was proclaimed independent. In fact, independence was not discussed. On December 28, 1920, Ukraine finally lost all hope for independence as a result of the signing of the treaty between the RSFSR and the Ukrainian SSR. After that, Ukraine was part of the USSR until the end of the century.
The next step towards independence was final and decisive. On August 21, 1991, Independence of Ukraine was proclaimed from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada. On December 1 of the same year, the Ukrainian referendum confirmed the desire of the country's independence.
Since that moment the Independence Day is widely and magnificently celebrated in our country. Celebrations are held both on Independence Square and in small squares and streets of our country.
