St. Valentine's Day in Ukraine is a day of love and of all lovers. There is one famous legend of the rise of St. Valentine's Day. In the III century in the Roman town of Terni lived a priest, Valentine. During this period the Roman emperor Claudius II ascended the throne. The emperor was distinguished by his hatred of Christians and encouraged the strength and courage of the soldiers. He issued a decree prohibiting marriages for legionaries, as a married man is too busy with the family and does not care about the welfare of the state. However, the priest Valentine disobeyed the imperial decree. He secretly crowned and married the lovers. In addition, he rendered all possible help to lovers: he put up a quarrel, wrote letters for those who could not do it himself. It was impossible to conceal this activity for a long time. In 269 Valentine was arrested, and soon the decree on his execution was signed. Since then, Valentine is considered the patron of all couples in love.
